“Weighed, Measured, and Found Wanting? The Use of Quality of Dying and Death Instruments in End-of-Life Research, Policy and Practice

I would like to sincerely thank the JAB organizing committee and leadership again for the opportunity to share my work at this year’s conference. Being awarded the 2022 JAB-ASBH fellowship helped build my confidence; I feel more comfortable sharing my work with international audiences because of this opportunity. For me, the Q&A portion of our conference session was the most valuable part of the experience. It helped me to identify weaknesses in—and ways to improve—my framing of the problem I addressed in my presentation and related ethical analysis, as I continue to work towards publishing this paper. In short, it did what any good conference does—provided me with needed critical feedback on my work. It was a great opportunity to connect with members of Japan’s bioethics community. I wish there had been more time at the conference to hear about others’ research interests and projects and explore potential collaborations. I look forward to seeing some of the attendees at future meetings abroad and in the US.
